5 out of 5 stars Sony does it again - excellent product!   January 3, 2009

This TV has replaced my beloved 12 yr old Sony Trinitron 29" CRT. I had viewed the Samsung, Panasonic & LG counterparts in both LCD & plasma formats, prior to choosing the Sony (I don't believe in blind brand loyalty).
2 weeks on, and I'm pleased to say that our viewing experience has been transformed by the W4000 - it has far exceeded all expectations! The previous reviewers have waxed lyrical about its performance, and I completely agree with every point. LCD technology has come of age, with picture quality as good as CRT.
I also appreciate the fact that the minimum viewing distance is about 6-8 feet, which suits our mid-sized living room perfectly.
I did take note of the forum comment about the W4500 being better than the W4000. Went to the Sony Centre and watched 10 minutes of 'Iron Man' (BD) on the 2 sets, side by side - and I must admit, there was absolutely no discernible difference whatsoever in any department. So, saved over 250, got free 5 year Sony warranty, and went for the W4000 - in my humble opinion, was a no-brainer!

After visiting a few high street electrical stores and spending hours trawling through various review sites and forums, I decided to purchase this TV.
I'm so glad I did.
Haven't had it long so I've not tested it to it's full potential, but I must say how good it looks through the standard inbuilt freeview tuner and with a 720p resolution movie, it looks marvellous. The blacks are black, the whites are white and after a little bit of tweaking the colours are lifelike. Can't wait to get a full HD film on the go!
Don't expect deep, booming bass from it's speakers, but what you do get is more than adequate.
Unfortunately, the first set we had delivered had a slight defect on the screen, a noticeable 3 inch dark patch. Thanks to Amazons excellent service, it was replaced within 4 days.
I can't recommend this telly enough. Well chuffed with it....

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS NO ORDINARY LCD ITS A SONY LCD   December 29, 2008

I have had this LCD for 2 months now,so have had the opportunity to play around with it. I can only describe it as awesome. The picture quality is very good after tweeking the colour controls slightly. Sound is also surprisingly good.I also have an Xbox hooked upto it which produced very very good graphics. But things were about to get even better.

The real joy came when i hooked it upto the Sony BDPS350 Blu Ray player.
(I received 5 discs with this purchase from Amazon who were running a promotion) The picture and sound were just incredible. I actually sat and watched a film like I had never done before. The detail was amazing.

I am not sure if the newer models with the 100htz addition are any better than this model. But i dont care as this LCD is a cracker.

We waited for some time for just the right flat screen TV and the wait was worth it for this one. Aside from changing the default colour settings, the only thing you need to do is take the TV out of the box and connect it. Set up was simple, quick and straightforward. Picture quality is excellent, sound quality from built in speakers is very good and we haven't felt the need yet to connect separate speakers. Definitely a top buy and well worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars I made the right choice   October 12, 2008

I dithered for a long time trying to choose a 40" TV. Couldn't decide between Panasonic Plasma or Sony LCD. In the end my dithering paid off as the price has dropped by over 400.

I bought the Sony in the end and I'm extremely pleased with it. I'm mainly using it for Sky (SD) but even on Freeview through the built in tuner it has a great picture (so long as you don't sit right in front of the screen) much better than any Freeview picture I have seen...very little Pixilation even on fast moving stuff like football.

Haven't tried any HD sources yet but upscaled DVDs look very rich.

I'm slightly disappointed by the sound....doesn't have the punch of my Toshiba LCD so at some stage I may consider surround sound or a 'sound bar' but it is more than adequate for general TV progs.

Great TV.
