A STYLISH LOOKING TV BUT POOR ON QUALITY. January 2, 2009 NEO (orpington kent) This little Toshiba is my new replacement for a Bush freeview 15' Crt for my small Bedroom. I had high hopes for this as my previous Set was fine but just to small and not widescreen. On a quick inspection this looks great and has a stylish black curved frame with a movable stand. It's also heavy at 8.7 Kg so I thought this was a real quality item !. However it only has one HDMI input and three AV with one Scart so it's limited. This does seem the norm for these smaller screens so it's no big deal in the long run. The on-screen menus are clear and easy to read and the first set-up takes it moments. I have yet to connect this to my Sony PS3 so I can't comment on the picture output from the console on HDMI. My major gripe like many other reviewers is over the rubbish sound which is appalling to say the least. My Dvd movies sound crackly and muffled even at higher than normal volume levels, which drives me crazy with frustration. And no matter how many times you try to change the levels it makes no difference. The picture also isn't great as it seems to wash out colours ,and looks blurry as if a net gauze has been placed over the screen. On freeview again it's not the best but the signal from digital is of poor quality anyway even on a high grade rooftop ariel which I have. All in all this isn't the best buy and I can't recommend this to anyone to tell the truth. I have since taken this back to the shop and had it replaced with a Samsung 19' which I hope will deliver the good's so to speak.
very poor from Toshiba/great service from Amazon January 1, 2009 solomon (bucks,UK) Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black I bought this great looking tv from amazon a few weeks ago for a great price. However, having successfully wall mounted the tv there were 2 major problems;3 dead pixels;once you've noticed them they glare out at you like tiny headlights! I see another reviewer had the same problem. Furthermore, the sound was appalling;very poor quality even for a small tv in the kitchen. Of course, I returned the item via Amazon's excellent return service at the same time as ordering a Samsung 19" via Amazon;this is less pretty, but with good sound, great picture & no dead pixels!! So, sorry Toshiba, but well done Amazon!
sound quality unbelievably bad December 28, 2008 CJW (Oxfordshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This TV looks good and no complaints about the picture quality. However, the sound is unbelievably bad for a brand name like Toshiba. It has all the tone controls and even a bass boost but the sound is still tinny and worse than I would expect to hear from a brand I haven't heard of. On a minor point I find the channels very slow to change over and would have preferred larger buttons for the volume and channel up and down selection - we are using this in the bedroom so this would make it easier to find with only the light from the TV to help. This was a present to us but had it not been I would definitely be attempting to return it in exchange for some other brand with decent sound
green pixels November 30, 2008 M. Heljula 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Good value TV but the first one had a permanent green dot on the screen. I returned it for a second one....this too had pixel damage so a permamnet green dot was visible from 10 yards away. Amazon's returns policy does not allow a third attempt so it's money back and try for the Samsung alternative which is a little cheaper!

Firstly, as a previous reviewer said, this is a great looking TV. I checked it out in the flesh before I placed my order via Amazon and I was excited about it being delivered. Unfortunately, that is where the excitement ended. Upon arrival I attached the tv effortlessly to the wall mount that I had purchased along with it. Fitting the wall mount was simple and effective and I was up and running in no time. Within seconds of turning it on however I noticed that there was a large luminous pair of "dead" pixels just to the left of the centre of the screen. I immediately packaged it back up, contacted Amazon, and ordered a replacement. A few days later the replacement arrived. I turned it on and...yep, the new set had a similar problem. But on this occasion the picture was only affected by one slightly less noticeable red "dead" pixel, again to the left of centre. Not only that but this set appeared to suffer from a dim humming type noise whenever the set was on. Extremely unhappy, I packaged this set up too and proceeded to cancel my order. I am in the process of returning this item too and am expecting a full refund. In terms of other aspects of the product, I found the screen to be capable of displaying decent imagery and colour from head-on, but if you are slightly to the side, or even above or below, a direct line of sight view the images darken and become difficult to distinguish. The sound quality is also not class leading: I'd expect better from even a 19" TV. In addition to the screen quality gripes I found the remote control to be poorly laid out and totally non-intuitive. The channel buttons are fine and of a nice size but the additional service buttons (such as those for selecting text/digital services, sound and picture modes) are too small and somewhat unresponsive. OK, so I may have been the unfortunate recipient of tvs from a faulty batch but I suspect not. I also don't think I have been overly picky. With so many reliable sets on the market we have no responsibility to accept second best or devices that are not fully fit for purpose; especially when they are brand new. As anyone knows, faulty pixels are irritating at the worst of times, but on a tv as small as this they are very, very easy to spot, and detract from the overall quality of the viewing experience. In summary, I was wholly disappointed by this set and am looking forward to receiving my Samsung replacement.
