5 out of 5 stars Fantastic TV for the money.   September 9, 2010
DaftMule (Oxon, UK)
We have just moved from a 28" Philips silver "monolith" which sat brooding like an ugly monster in the corner of the room to this slim, stylish LG LCD tv which is much nicer to look at and doesn't dominate the room like the old TV.

I spent quite some time looking into which LCD to buy. LED would have been nice but is still too pricey and plasma options at 32" are very limited (i.e. almost none!). In the end I went to a Curry's to see some in action and came away rather worried about the ability of ANY LCD tv to give a decent non-HD picture. All of them look amazing when viewing in HD but a bit rubbish on normal. For us, 100% of the viewing will be in normal non-HD until Freeview HD gets rolled out so getting a tv that showed normal TV a clearly as possible was important.

So, I went for this LG for several reasons in the end:

1) It's 100Hz which gives a better picture in non-hd mode (supposedly)
2) It had Freeview HD built in
3) It had the ability to be linked up to my PC either by cable or by getting a separate wireless dongle.
4) Full HD not HD ready.
5) The price seemed very reasonable to me.

When I unpacked it last night, setup was very easy. Just needed a philips screwdriver to attach the base. On switching on I was presented with the setup menu which was child's play to follow. Auto detection of freeview channels was seamless and within 10 mins I was up and running.

Picture quality was superb straight out of the box! For the tweakers out there, there is ample fine tuning of colour and sound to be done if you wish. Only slight criticism is that when it's set to automatically adjust the picture quality according to the room light levels, the picture was a little dark. Sound is perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned.

A couple of things to note:

1) I really hadn't considered Freeview HD and the fact that some TV's have a freeview HD receiver built and others don't. When I was alerted to this though, it made sense though to get it built in now rather than having to buy a separate box when it comes out next year (in our area anyway).

2) The TV doesn't come with a wireless dongle. You need to buy that separately and it has to be a specific LG dongle apparently. I haven't managed to find one yet but as an alternative I'm considering going wired using those network adaptors that use the house electrical wiring.

4 out of 5 stars just short of excellence by design   August 29, 2010

Excellent delivery earlier than advised by almost 2 days, well packed and easy to unpack / fit stand. Picture quality streets ahead of the 28 inch CRT JVC it replaced. Easy to tune in to Freeview and Freeview HD, we live 2 miles from the transmitter which is also broadcasting HD signals and is in line of sight.
Niggles few but Intelligent Sensor great in sunlight but does not adjust well to fading light and needs reset to user settings, other than that quite happy. Not tried running DVDs,WiFi,Bluetooth or Laptop connections yet but USBs useful and also allows use of card reader so direct input from camera card possible.
There are so many "not TV" features that it will take me some time to explore(and master) them all.
Biggest niggle....too easy to hit "Guide" button when using the down arrow key on the central control.
Manual on CD is very cumbersome and far too big to print out.
Overall very happy with the LG32LD690 but when are Channel 5 going to get into the act and put HD on Freeview ?

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant TV   August 18, 2010

This is a great TV. We have had an 8 year old Sony tube type TV for years and thought it was good, until we saw this.

In HD format the picture is stunning. I wholly recommend it, plus you can plug in USB sticks or external hard drives and play videos, images and music - fantastic and should be great for the future.

4 out of 5 stars Near perfection   July 20, 2010
Chrizie (UK)
I don't have freeview HD yet, I bought this TV in order to future proof my purchase. However in normal freeview the picture quality is stunning everything I'd hoped for and more, when HD becomes available it should be truly amazing.

Using the TV is easy, top marks for the way it operates with a vast array of options that are easily selected.

The only thing that stops me giving it the 5 stars is the sound quality. My old LG had side mounted forward facing speakers which had amazing quality. The bottom mounted downward facing speakers of this set are just not as good. It may be that the lack of sound quality may afflict all TV's with this configeration, something I don't know. I may decide to connect alternative speakers to improve the sound quality. Would I still buy this TV knowing what I do now, the answer is definetely yes. The picture which you can't change is perfection, the sound can be inproved and at Amazons price you can't go wrong - buy it.

I have recently purchased this product, very easy to set up, great picture and sound quality for the money.

I have not managed to experiance the HD freeview yet, sadly I will have to wait until it is available in my area before commenting.

One issue I have is that LG web site and Amazon both state 100 x 100mm Vesa fitting for the TV, I purchased this size bracket in anticipation of fitting the TV up on the wall following delivery only to find the Vesa fitting measures 100 x 200mm. The CD manual provided to you with the TV states 100 x 200mm - correct. I have advise LG of this and they ensure me they will remedy the problem.

This aside great TV for the money full of functions and packed with technology to keep you busy for hours. Definitely recommend this set.
