5 out of 5 stars LG 42 LCD TV With Free sat   May 31, 2010

Great TV, dead easy to set up, so do not understand recommendation for installation. Have seen some slightly adverse comment on sound quality, but I am more than delighted with it.

5 out of 5 stars LG freesat built in TV   May 29, 2010
K. Robson (Scotland)
I took a long time to choose this TV,hoping that it was suitable for my Ps3 .
My patients has been rewarded .Playstation is fantastic, the blue ray looks great.Built in Freesat is very good. .Having seen some "42" Tvs in shops with less than spectacular picture I am very impressed with this screen .Overall I would say this Tv is a happy medium between Quality and price...

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   April 28, 2010
Dave L. (UK)
I did a bit of reading and decided on the 42LF7700. We don't have a roof aerial, so the Freesat was the deciding factor for me, along with the 100hz screen options.

It arrived as expected, and unpacking was easy enough.

I've see a couple of people mention that the stand is fiddly to setup - I have to disagree and will say that it was perfectly easy to screw the base to the 'upright' and then slot the whole thing into the bottom of the television.

I bought a tilt / swivel wall bracket and that arrived at the same time .. and an hour later it was on the wall and tuning itself to the satellite signal.

There are only two HD channels on Freesat - BBC HD looks absolutely stunning, whereas ITV HD looks a little bit inferior.

I didn't touch the paper manual, and just dived into the menu via the remote control. It's so easy to navigate around.

I tried the various power-saving modes and I have to agree with other reviewers that if you select the maximum savings the picture is just too dark during the day. Probably OK for evening viewing though.

The default colour / contrast and other picture settings are *awful*, everything is far to bright, vivid and red!! A couple of minutes 'tweaking' soon sorted that out. I'm not 100% happy with my choice of settings though, and it'll take a bit more fine tuning.

I was expecting terrible sounds from the speakers but to be honest the quality of the audio has amazed. Even with no 'tweaking' the sounds are quite rich, with plenty of bass and treble for my amateur ears. Again, there are plenty of options for adjusting the sounds and sound-scheme, and a graphic equaliser for even more fine-tuning. I was half expecting to need to buy a seperate amplifier and speakers but I absolutely don't.

I haven't tried plugging anything into the USB port, to view photos (and listen to MP3's??).

The one thing I could criticise is the on-screen menu's .. they can seem a little bit slow when compared to my Sky+ box but they're not annoyingly slow.

Overall, I can't recommend the television highly enough. I'd got sick and tired of my big old Sony CRT )and endless dusty boxes underneath) dominating the corner of the room .. I now have just the telly on the wall, more empty space on the floor, and no other boxes .. the Sky+ box is going upstairs for recording stuff. I suppose I might add a Blu-Ray player so that'll be one box :-)

4 out of 5 stars Life "is" Good   February 25, 2010

Before I review the TV, I'll like to say the first set delivered, turned out to be faulty, taking over 2 mins to switch on. After calling LG Support, (a painless process), it was deemed faulty and agreed should be returned to the vendor. Annoying, but none the less reassuringly simple. This led to the Amazon returns process, which I was dreading as I've very has to return an item before. With a bit of time invested in reading the returns procedure carefully, this too turned out to be straight forward. Back to the TV....
This is my first TV in over 10 years. How times have changed.
- I connected it to my now defunct Sky disk (just removed the cable from the box and plugged it directly into the TV)
- Auto Tuning was straight forward, followed by some kind of system updates (how does it do that over an aerial...??)
Then the TV is ready to use
Digital picture is more clear than my old CRT. HD channels are superb, I cannot wait for the world cup in HD.
I have also connected this TV to my computer via a RGB cable, but will also work via DVI. This show BBC iPlayer and download HD movies. Curiously there is a network port on the back, though no real explanation what this is for. Possible TV on-demand or internet TV in the future.
Only downside, the sound quality is a bit thin. But then I have been listening to a basey CRT for 10 years.....

Efficient and speedy delivery from supplier was the start, but a truly wonderful unit once installed which again was simple.
Very pleased with this product which is easy to use and gives a great picture. Having the freesat was an extra bonus.
