Far too basic September 8, 2010 Bea 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband and I have a 3 year old Sony Bravia 26 inch TV, with which we are very pleased. On this basis, we bought my mother-in-law a KDL26EX302. Our current TV has a comprehensive manual; however, the new KDL26EX302 model only comes with a much briefer version, probably because of its more limited capabilities.
For example, with our older 26in Bravia, it is possible to set up the DVD recording of a television programme directly from the Electronic Programme Guide, with a couple of easy button clicks on the remote control. The newer KDL26EX302 does not have this highly desirable function. In fact, we're still not sure how to record digital programmes (using a Sony DVD recorder) on the non-terrestrial channels, or whether it is even possible.
Called Sony to ask if we were doing something wrong. The technical assistant, though pleasant, was less than useless.
Our impresssion ... Sony have skimped on the KDL26EX302. The result ... we are disappointed.
Sony Bravia KDL26EX302U Could do better. September 6, 2010 Chris24 This TV has a good range of features. The sound is fine and the picture quality is good but only when sat directly in front. The further to the side you view from the worse the picture becomes.
The picture drop off rate is much more apparent than on a Panasonic TV I have.
This may not be too much of a problem if just one person will be watching but if several people are watching together those furthest from the centre line may be disapointed.
sony 32" TV September 6, 2010 nicola Great TV,I can recommend this, the only point is it is not moveable from the base for swirling round for easy of watching.
A fat lot of good to Sweeney fans September 3, 2010 J. A. Harvey (Lincolnshire, UK) Having spent the past month looking at virtually every 26 inch TV on the market, I have come to regard this Sony as having more or less the best picture quality overall, and good sound to boot. The problem is that unlike the other sets you cannot change the aspect ratio from 16:9 (wide) to 4:3 through an HDMI connection. Fine if you only want to watch the modern stuff and HD that's all made in widescreen, but if like me you also like classic drama series like Upstairs Downstairs or the Sweeney that go out on ITV2, 3, & 4, this TV will only show it in widescreen through HDMI, so you'll have to put up with Regan and Carter looking like a couple of sumo wrestlers, or fit a scart lead and change the AV setting from HDMI to scart every time there's a 4:3 transmission.
I called Sony about this and I couldn't get much sense out of them. When I eventually got to speak to a supposed technician all he would say was "HDMI will only support 16:9". Maybe, but the fact is every other TV allows you to override the 16:9 or widescreen setting in HDMI. I spoke to a few Hi-Fi/TV dealerships and the ones that knew their stuff accepted that it was an oversight on Sony's part that affects all Sony TV's. My advice is to give serious consideration to the Samsung LE26C450. It's got a very tidy picture, it's a great looker, and it allows you to change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 in HDMI with one button (P-Size) so you don't even have to go into the menu. Furthermore, you'll get a good chunk of change from £300 at the moment.
Sounds right. August 31, 2010 dgs This packaged set was easy to assemble ie attachment of its stand and very easy to get working using its auto-tune. The picture is very clear and the sound is better than most sets I have used in the past. I am very satisfied with it and can recommend it.
