5 out of 5 stars Simply stunning!   July 28, 2010
dieselmonkey (Dorset)
I bought this television back in January, so I've had a good few months to test it out. I've always bought Panasonic before and assumed I would do again as they had always looked good (in terms of picture quality) to my eyes. Before I splashed my cash though I went to a few well-known retailers to see the tellies in action.

This model Samsung was on display next to the Panny that I had decided I was going to buy, and I was blown away by the difference. It simply was the finest picture in the whole store. There was an LG that came close but had a very reflective screen (so you mainly saw yourself not the picture). This however was low reflection, bright dazzling colours, no pixelation or blockiness - it was like looking through a window only better. I was utterly smitten. It's also impossibly thin and beautiful even when switched off!

6 months on I'm still impressed everytime I turn it on; I definitely made the right television decision. If I was really nit-picking, then occasionally on a plain black screen there is a tiny whitish bleed from the bottom left corner. To be honest this is so difficult to see that it doesn't bother me - and how often do you watch a totally plain black screen?! Has never been an issue when watching blurays or HDTV; I'm too busy enjoying the detail.

The other thing that I don't like is the internet and DLNA - the bespoke wifi stick is overpriced; the websites they offer are basically rubbish, and the DLNA doesn't work with macs. However, I didn't buy it for surfing the net and I much prefer the mac-compatible DLNA on my PS3, so again this doesn't bother me. Too busy being blown away by the picture quality. Can't comment on freeview tuner as we don't have freeview in my part of Dorset - I'll let you know what I think in 2012!

Plenty of my friends have expensive tellies of all sizes and brands, but I always have an inner smugness about mine and how superb the picture quality is. Which, at the end of the day, is what you buy a telly for, so 5 stars from me.

good bits:
Good picture quality and contrast and brightnes.
100Hz gives very good quality motion and no breaks.
sound ok not the best but its ok for a decent size room.
ecenomical to run, less power hungry.

bad bits:
No picture in picture.
Internet widgets very slow.
video player doesnt work properly for every kind of mpeg file.
you tube doesnt work properly to play video.

4 out of 5 stars Samsung LED tv report   June 19, 2010
Mr. J. Gascoigne (Derbyshire / UK)
1)Assembly of television on its stand difficult unless a helper is available. ie holding the panel while putting the screws in is tricky.
2)Connecting up to the Sky +box straightforward. Manuel ok and fairly extensive.
3)Only used television in basic mode up to now & not tried any other functions such as Media Play, Anynet, internet TV etc. The picture quality of this LED panel is superb in High Definition mode, sharp & crystal clear like a glossy up market magazine.Blacks are really black much better than LCD fluorescent lit panels. Can view picture from side without picture degradation. There is no picture judder when across screen movement occurs as seen on cheap flat panel displays. None HD pictues are surprisingly good too.
On this set the standard definition pictures on Sky are noticeably better than Freeview both digital and analogue.
4)Sound is poor and does not equal the picture quality. Speech is ok but music lacks bass and some middle frequencies. To make a top class system a 5:1 sound surround system is a must. A pity Samsung did not fit output sockets to connect to axillary speakers. I think all manufacturers of thin LED panel televisions have a real problem making reasonable quality sound.

Just got this TV from Amazon (used their marketplace seller Warehouse Deals and managed to save £150 on the TV despite the fact the only issue was that the box had been out to a customer and sent back unopened - bargain).

Before buying I was debating if an LED was worth it as you're paying a couple of hundred quid more compared to a plasma, but all I can say is Wow! Compared to my previous LCD and Plasma TVs, the picture on this TV is incredible, super crisp and sharp, with superb contrast, motion display etc. The black's are incredibly deep and it gives dark scenes in movies an incredible edge. I've a reasonably sized living room and 40" was certainly big enough, any more would have dominated the room and I'm glad I didn't go any more.

Some of the reviews here say that the the speakers on the TV aren't great (part of the reason that it is so thin), I'm not a home cinema buff and for watching normal TV they sounded fine to me, but I if you to turn the volume right up, the quality does start to suffer.

Another added benefit of the LED vs a plasma or LCD is the power consumption. While this means lower electricity bills when you're running it, more importantly for me, it means that it doesn't give off the huge amounts of heat you get with other flat screens.

All-in-all, very happy with the purchase, great quality TV and worth every penny and certainly check out Amazon's warehouse deals if you're looking for a bargain.

4 out of 5 stars Samsung UE40B7020W 40-inch Widescreen Ultra Slim Full HD 1080P Crystal LED TV   April 24, 2010
Mr. Tim Challenor (Wimbledon, London UK)
In respect of the style and the picture quality, this is by anyones standards an excellent TV. Picture quality is as good as it gets when watching 1080p, i, or 720p sources. A little less so when watching PAL/SDTV. In summary, this TV looks superb, and the pictures it produces are also superb.

Sadly, I cannot score it above 7 out of 10 (5 stars won't let me do less than 80% or more than 60%), because the sound quality is so poor. The old 26" Sony Trinitron it replaced gave us 15 years of faultless, near perfect SDTV pictures, but also had sound quality that makes the Samsung seem like a tinny 1970's transistor radio.

So - its a curates' egg I'm afraid. If you - like most who would buy this TV, also own a nice hi-fi, some computers and a home network, then none of the 'toys' like IP connectivity, can counterbalance this - after all you are spending £1000 on a TV - the sound really should be acceptable. In my view its merely tolerable.

Hope this helps you make your decision.
