Ideal for watching the 2010 World Cup in HD March 21, 2010 S. J. Cross (Lancashire) I bought this TV specifically for watching this summers Football World Cup Final's and I can't wait.
The picture quality is spot on, I've certainly not seen any better whilst searching the sheds and high street stores. The colours are very life like thanks to the Bravia engine. The picture moves very, very smoothly and whilst watching the Premier League I've seen no picture lag, infact I have never detected any picture lag at anytime. The 100Hz motion flow is first class.
The sound from the onboard speakers is ok (infact I would go further and say very good if it wasn't for the online reviewer detractors who are making me question my own judgement), I'm not sure just what people expect, its a TV the sound will never 'compare' to a high end HiFi system, however again its as good as you will probably find on any TV of a similar design.
The built in Freeview is nice, again picture and sound excellent and the presentation of the electronic program guide is very cool, it certainly looks the part.
The remote is excellent, its easy to navigate, and sits comfortably in your hand.
Their seems to be plenty of sockets including 3 hdmi sockets.
The build quality as you would expect is excellent.
A very recommended buy which I am sure will provide many years of excellent service. Buy now, and like me cheer England on to World Cup victory in South Africa! COME ON ENGLAND!!!
Brilliant value vs Imperfection March 16, 2010 Matthew G. Wickers (Uk) A mid range value for money Tv; at £676 this is a fantastic price for such a product.
The contrast, picture, and menu ease, for me make it a top seller within this price range. I was extremely happy with the picture; the colours were brilliant and upon watching a blu-ray, really stood out from any 4/5 series Samsung. The contrast ratio (despite some websites suggesting this is not important) was brilliant and in a light room the difference between bright and dark colours was noticeably fantastic. In addition, in regards to the hardwear, there were sufficient SCARTS and HDMI inputs/outputs which is important for many - especially if you run SKY/DVD/PS3/XBOX/WII AND seperate BLU RAY. the casing was very presentable in the Piano Black finish, although the small green LED to show power on did irritate a little.
However, there were some SERIOUS downsides to this product. The most important issue for anyone who knows LCD TV's - Backlight bleed. This was so very noticable on all 4 corners whislt in a dark room. I would describe it as search lights shining into the screen. Very very very off putting when watching a film such as Batman; the Dark Knight. It was due to this reason I sent this product back to Amazon (awaiting my full refund but only returned yesterday). Amazon Technical did however suggest this may be a manufacturers fault but I was not prepared to take the risk again.
However, there was more....much more. The sound was terrible....you really do need to have a surround sound system if you require quality bass and depth.
I have purposely left the issue of Input Lag till last - if you are a PS3 owner and fond of games such as Call of Duty 4/5/6, then you will have some serious issues when it comes to the amount of time it takes for the TV to respond to your actions. I.e. when you fire a gun, you will see it almost 17 - 30 ms later on the tv. Many critics say this is unnoticeable...in my opinion it was the final straw.
In summary, for value this TV as a 40 inch is fantastic if you watch TV/DVD/BLU RAY in the day/good evening light conditions and require a clear, crisp dynamic picture. the Bravia 3 engine certainly extends upon picture quality. However if you are fussy and are looking for a TV to play hours of PS3 games and watch Films/Blu Rays in the dark like at a cinema, then I would opt to pay that little bit more for one of the newer EX500 Sony models which has a faster refresh rate (8ms) and LED's supporting the frame thus avoiding backlight bleed.
Is clouding/back light a fault? March 15, 2010 J. Sui (London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this TV from Marks and Spencers over a month ago. Pictures are nice on the TV and the TV itself looks quite good. However, what bothers me is the clouding issue. After noticing it on the dark screen within a week after it was delivered, we couldn't ignore it. It is there and we tend to look for it when we watch TV or films. It is becoming very annoying!
We contacted Marks and Spencers about this issue and they sent an engineer during the day. The engineer decided it is not faulty after looking at the TV. Therefore Marks and Spencers is not going to replace it not to mention to refund us!
I am very confused, is this a fault? The clouding is so obvious when we watch TV at night and it is so irritating to spend nearly 700 on something that annoys us!
Fantastic TV. Worth every penny! March 13, 2010 Yusuf Ibrahim We had CRT TV for a while now and we finally decided to upgrade to HD televsion. We did a bit of research around and finally decided to go for this particular sony bravia.
When the TV finally arrived the first impression was wow! It looked very nice. However plugging it in and watching it was even better. The difference between standard and high definition was staggering. Overall very satisfied with the TV.
WOW March 13, 2010 Mr. D. Wilson (west mids UK) I had done a lot of research before buying this TV. i am glad i choose this over the rivals, what a fantastic picture. With the PS3 and a HD lead the graphics are amazing. i am planning on upgrading to cable hd or Sky HD, even so the picture from my current cable supplier in standard definition is still excellant. i have not watched a blueray disc yet but if its as the PS3 then i know its going to be good.
