3 out of 5 stars Definitely a sound issue   July 14, 2009

My first impressions of this TV were very positive. It has a fantastic picture, looks good on display, and the remote control and programme guide are very intuitive.

Unfortunately it is let down by the sound which vibrates at certain pitches and gives off an annoying buzz. This isn't noticeable the whole time - just with certain voices at certain volumes - but if you have sensitive hearing, this could well be an issue for you. It definitely is for me.

If I'd been aware of the sound problem beforehand, I'd have opted for something else - probably a Sony Bravia. It's a shame because everything else about this TV is spot on.

4 out of 5 stars Great Samsung Television   June 23, 2009

This is a great TV and I'm happy with the purchase. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of 2 minor annoyances:

1) It has some sort of a problem with Apple TV. Every time I want to watch Apple TV, I have to unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. I hope I stumble across the solution to this problem.

2) The remote doesn't have a convenient way to access the choice of inputs. You either have to cycle through them all or access the full scale onscreen menu, which is visually intrusive and requires far too many clicks.

5 out of 5 stars Very happy with this T.V.   June 10, 2009

Great picture (interesting how Freeview's pics are always better than Sky through the satellite) and still good at narrow viewing angles. I was also pleased with the sound. Flat-screen T.V's usually are poor on sound. OK, if you wire-up a cinema system to it then you can do even better, but it's fine on its own. I saw a review elsewhere which criticised the sound but I don't think it was a fair comment.
Although I bought this for its full 1080 readiness (some cheaper Samsungs look the same so make sure you have the full 1080) I haven't yet put in Freeesat, and won't pay the extra for Sky's overpriced HD, so I can't yet comment on how good it may be on full HD.
Some specs say it has only one scart socket, but mine came with 2, and there's also plenty of HD etc. connections too. If you stick a DVD player into the spare input socket the T.V. knows when you switch the DVD on and goes automatically to this new source, and then switches away again afterwards.
So easy to set up, it does it all for itself, any idiot should be able to make it work. It tunes through all the freeview channels, then accepts the Sky box stuff as a separate source, and switching between the two is kids' play. The remote control is simple to understand.
I've done a lot of looking around, and this beats all other makes on price, picture quality and sound.
The only criticism (and I reckon I must have pressed a button somewhere to get it) is that I can't get rid of the annoying commentary for those who are blind or have impaired vision, this is just on Channel 5 Freeview TV and nowhere else. I've only watched 5 a few times in my life, so who cares! Steve Riches.

4 out of 5 stars Great picture, sound is a bit tinny   May 29, 2009
Jamie Regan (Dunbar, Scotland)
The only reason I've not given this TV a 5/5 is that the sound is a bit tinny and naff. I have a surround sound system, though and will be connecting that up soon, so I'm not too worried.

The TV picture is superb though. I foolishly tried a cheap Technika before this. I was told that only 3-4 companies make TVs and the likes of Samsung/ Panasonic etc just put their own fronts on. NO WAY! The Technika was rubbish. I took it back straight away and went back to the old faithful - Samsung.
